Zhongyuan Pipeline Manufacturing Co., Ltd.: Storage Standards for Anti-Corrosion Steel Pipes
2022-05-07
Storage standards for anti-corrosion steel pipes: Even after production, these pipes still face a critical challenge—storage. Let’s take a look at how to store them properly.
I. Anti-corrosion steel pipe Inbound and outbound visual inspection standards:
(1) Inspect each item individually: the polyethylene layer shall have a smooth surface, free of dark blisters, pinholes, wrinkles, and cracks, with uniform color. The pipe surface shall be free of blemishes, thick skin, and severe corrosion.
(2) The curvature of the steel pipe shall be less than of its length. 0.2% , the ovality shall be less than or equal to the outer diameter of the steel pipe. 0.2% . Local irregularities on the pipe surface shall be less than 2mm。

II. Anti-corrosion steel pipe Transportation Standards:
(1) Loading and Unloading: Pipes shall be handled using dedicated slings to prevent damage to the pipe ends; bent pipes shall be lifted with webbing slings to avoid compromising the anti-corrosion coating. During handling, hoisting, and loading/unloading operations, all components of construction machinery must maintain the prescribed safety clearance from overhead power lines. Prior to loading, verify the pipe’s anti-corrosion grade, material, and wall thickness; pipes with different anti-corrosion grades, materials, or wall thicknesses must not be mixed.
(2): The transportation of pipelines shall comply with the relevant regulations of the transport authorities. A thrust‑stop plate shall be installed between the trailer and the cab, and the upright posts shall be securely fastened. When transporting coated pipes, they must be tightly lashed, and protective measures shall be taken to safeguard the coating. ( The two ends of the flexible tie-down strap should be secured. ) Rubber sheets or other soft materials shall be provided between the corrosion‑protected pipe and the frame or column, as well as between the corrosion‑protected pipe and the lashing ropes. Rubber sleeves or other flexible hose sleeves shall be fitted over the lashing ropes. Special measures shall be taken for the transportation of bent pipes. ( Soft shims shall be used to prevent contact and abrasion between anti-corrosion primers. )。
III. Anti-corrosion steel pipe Storage standards:
(1) Pipes, pipe fittings, valves, and other equipment and materials shall be properly stored in accordance with the requirements of the relevant product specifications. During storage, regular inspections shall be conducted to prevent corrosion, deformation, aging, or deterioration in performance.
(2) Glass cloth, heat‑shrinkable tapes, heat‑shrink sleeves, and similar materials shall be stored in a well‑ventilated, dry warehouse.
(3) Materials or equipment such as pipes, pipe fittings, and valves may be stored outdoors in designated areas. The storage area shall be level, free of stones, and the ground must be kept dry to prevent water accumulation. The storage area should maintain a certain percentage… 1 ~ Percent 2 The slope should be designed, and drainage ditches installed. Access roads for vehicles and cranes must be provided to the storage area, and no overhead power lines should be present above the site.
(4) Anti-corrosion pipes in the warehouse shall be stacked in layers, with all pipes oriented in the same direction. The stacking height must ensure that the pipes remain stable and do not deform, nor do they damage the anti-corrosion coating. Anti-corrosion steel pipes of different specifications and materials shall be stored separately. Cushioning pads shall be placed between each layer of pipes. Two rows of sleepers or sand belts shall be laid beneath the lowermost layer of pipes. The clearance between the pipes and the ground shall be greater than… 50 Millimeters; to ensure the stability of the pipe assembly, the next layer of corrosion‑protected pipes shall be secured with wedges.
(5) Site construction requirements for pipe storage: Anti-corrosion pipes shall be supported at their base by two pieces. ( or two or more ) Support pads, with a spacing of 4m ~ 8m , the minimum width of the support pad is 100mm , the anti-corrosion pipe shall be no less than 100mm , support pads, anti-corrosion pipes, and anti-corrosion pipe sections shall be placed on flexible shims. The permissible number of stacking layers for anti-corrosion pipes shall meet the following requirements: nominal diameter dn (mm) dn <200 <300 <400 Number of stacking layers
(6) Valves shall be stored in their original packaging, and appropriate waterproofing measures shall be implemented during storage.
